Portals IV, Homecoming

Portals IV

“Portals VI”
26″ x 32″ Framed

“Portals IV” illustrates that moment we all must face, one by one, when we pass from life, to death. The questions are, “What’s on the other side?” and “Does it hurt to die?” The golden orb suggests hope, while the slits in the fabric suggest pain.

I created this piece at the time a dear friend died. At her service, the priest spoke about the home God had prepared for her. I added a simple home like structure, with a light in the window, to signify her welcome home.

“Portals IV” is made from hand painted silk organza, and is hand stitched. It is framed, without glass.
